The Phantom Father was selected in the official competition of the 60th edition of the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival (10th-20th of November 2011), one of the oldest film festivals in the world - and the second oldest in Germany.

For nearly 60 years, it has been a forum for the art of cinema, for films with a personal signature, debut features of now famous directors such as François Truffaut (1959), Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1969), Wim Wenders (1969), Krzyszof Kieslowski (1975), Jim Jarmusch (1980), Atom Egoyan si Lars von Trier (1984), Bryan Singer (1993), Thomas Vinterberg (1997), Matias Bize (2003) or Ramin Bahrani (2005) being for the first time introduced to an international public.

The Phantom Father is one of the only 20 films – out of a total of 700 submissions – selected for the competition.
